The raw materials from these distant countries, mysterious and exotic treasures, were being snapped up at a price of gold. The perfumer, meanwhile, travels the seas of the Antilles to the Cape of Good Hope, from the Malabar coast to China to bring back the finest qualities of vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli.
